Hi there, my name is Cheryl, and I am the owner and creator of West Cork Bears.

Handcrafted Crocheted Keepsake Bears

I specialise in creating crocheted keepsake bears (and maybe a bunny or two), each one carefully handmade to commemorate life's special moments. These bears are perfect for special occasions such as weddings, welcoming new babies, celebrating graduations, and milestone birthdays. Each bear is designed and crafted with care and attention to detail to mark moments that matter.

Originally from the UK, I moved to West Cork, Ireland over a decade ago. Now based in Skibbereen, I am a proud mother to two sons and have embraced my new home and its community. I work part-time within the local area, contributing to the community, and in my spare time I dedicate myself to creating my bears.

Keeping both my hands and mind busy is important to me. In between crocheting, I find great enjoyment in many other activities, such as colouring, diamond painting, tackling word and number puzzles, and even assembling flat-packed furniture! These hobbies not only support my passion for crafting but also help me to relax and unwind.

I rarely enjoy a silent house—except, of course, when it is time for bed. Throughout the day, I much prefer to have either music or the television on in the background. This constant stream of sound helps to create a comforting atmosphere, making my workspace both lively and creative.

I have always been inspired with wool crafts after watching my mother knit and crochet during my childhood. So, I taught myself to crochet, learning the skill with nothing more than a book, a hook, and a ball of wool.

Approximately four years ago, I showcased my creations to a local entrepreneur, who kindly agreed to display my products in their business. This opportunity allowed my work to reach new customers within the community. Following the closure of that business, I decided to embark on my own path, leading to the launch of West Cork Bears as a solo venture.

I am committed to using materials purchased from Irish craft suppliers whenever possible and truly enjoy crafting each bear (and sometimes the odd bunny) and seeing their personalities emerge as I work. Every bear is finished with my signature heart button, a unique touch that completes each piece.
